Discussions | | Your Top 5 Velvet Underground Songs and Why? | | I can barely believe that the Velvets are not being discussed on MyLot.com
I think its time we changed that as they are the band whose influence is to be seen more than any other band on todays pop/rock music scene.
Would anybody like to give us a start with their 5 favorite Velvet songs and any reason you like for picking them?

| | The Velvet Underground: Was there ever a more underrated band? | | It's been said that only a thousand people ever bought a Velvet Underground album while they were still together, but that every single one of them started a band. And to a degree, I think that is true.VU were just about ten to fifteen years ahead of their time. The world just wasn't ready for "Venus In Furs" when they made it. Interestingly enough, their final album Loaded which was recorded while the band was falling apart is probably their most "mainstream" record. Not saying anything against it, I loved Loaded, it gaves us Sweet Jane and Rock N Roll.Overall, I can't think of a band that had more of an impact on the history of music but sold less records than VU did. | |
| | | Velvet Underground rarity sells on eBay (closing bid of $155,401)? | | Something very interesting which I read this morning and I thought it might amuse you too. Maybe we should all start going to flea market? And then again, sometimes you can really get some good bargains in flea market so I guess, why not. Do you go to flea market or do auction?By Verena DobnikForty years after it was made, The Velvet Underground's first recording has become a financial hit — in cyberspace. Bought for 75 cents four years ago at a Manhattan flea market, the rare recording of music that ended up on the influential New York band's first album, "The Velvet Underground & Nico," sold on eBay for a closing bid of $155,401.The buyer is a mystery, only identified by the eBay screen name: "mechadaddy."Read the full post at: http://informationalnetwork.blogspot.com/2006/12/velvet-underground-rarity-sells-on.html | |

| | The Strokes - "Is This It" - (2001) | | Morning Listening Early in the morning it’s problematic for me to determinate what type of music to listen to. I don’t desire to listen to something heavy, for it would be an overload of thundering audibles. Hard and loud music tends to irritate me and make for a bad combination with my morning time grogginess. Since it takes me a nice little space of time to adjust to the sun rising, strong vigorous music is not my morning cup of tea. Then, you have something that is easy listening. Since what I seek to do is to wake up rather than fall back into a coma, I don't think that would be very pleasant music. So with that in mind, my morning routine begins... before I can choose my morning music I must find my c.d. book. (Once that occurs...) I then proceed to search page after page hopping to find something that fits. Just as I begin to lose hope, what do I see? That white, black, and a shade of blue. It’s The Strokes' musical disk. If you’re asking to yourself right now... What makes The Strokes morning listening material? Well, its the soft pop mellow musical revelry that they are quite efficient at creating.

| | David Bowie - Queen Bi*ch - talk about referental | | (can't type the full title)
Manages to sound like first album Velvet Underground, be a probibly refereance to/diss of Marc Bolan for trying to copy him ("she's so swishy in her satin and tat
In her frock coat and bipperty-bopperty hat
Oh God, I could do better than that")
and a major influance on The Killers - Mr. Brightside with the "Now she's leading him on
And she'll lay him right down
Yes she's leading him on
And she'll lay him right down
But it could have been me
Yes, it could have been me
Why didn't I say, why didn't I say, no, no, no
.....
And I'm phoning a cab
'Cause my stomach feels small"lyrics | |

| | 1980's Music Trivia | | What is the name of the song AND the artist?#1) I keep looking for something I can't get Broken hearts lie all around me And I don't see an easy way out of this Her diary, it sits on the bedside table The curtains are closed, the cat's in the cradle Who would've thought that a boy like me could come to this CHORUS: Oh, I just died in your arms tonight It must've been something you said, I just died in your arms tonight Oh, I just died in your arms tonight It must've been some kind of kiss I should've walked away, I should've walked away Is there any just cause for feeling like this On the surface I'm a name on a list I try to be discreet, but then blow it again I've lost and found, it's my final mistake She's loving by proxy, no give and all take 'Cause I've been thrilled to fantasy one too many times CHORUS It was a long hot night She made it easy, she made it feel right But now it's over, the moment is gone I followed my hands, not my head, I know I was wrong CHORUS #2) You're always dancing down the street With your suede blue eyes And every new boy that you meet He doesn't know the real surprise Here she comes again When she's dancing... | |
