Discussions
Sam Cooke's Version of They Call the Wind Mariah!
I really adore Sam Cooke's version of They Call the Wind Mariah! It is neat to hear Sam perform a country song but in his own way. His vocal fluctuations and nuances have never been more superb. They lyrics are so sweet, pretty, melancholy and somewhat kind of fun too.Luckily thanks to the many online music streaming sites and youtube I was able to hear the song. I don't think that I would have any other way. I'm not the wealthiest person out there and due to the rarity of such tracks, I doubt that I could afford them any other way. Luckily, I am able to experience the joy of Cooke's music thanks to the internet and find some, probably, hard to find music performances. Especially since a lot of songs and albums by Cooke have yet to be released.Has anyone seen the film it is from Paint Your Wagon Red?
Are you a Sam Cooke fan?
Hmmmmmmmmm... Just listening to Sam Cooke's songs takes me into another world.[em]happy[/em]I do not want to be disturbed at times like that but just to allow his oh so melodic voice take on me on the various journys down emotion lane. Some of his songs I really like (there's none I know that I do not like) are:* I was born by the river...The last song he did before his death.* Twisting the night away* You send me and thelistcould go on but why dont I allow you to add your favourites. Are you a Sam Cooke fan?Which of his songs do you like the best?

Interview with a Writer~Ben Greenman~Why email is the enemy
DT: The copy for “Correspondences” says that it “provides a bittersweet glimpse at the lost art of letter-writing.” Do you actually remember letter-writing personally? BG: I remember it very clearly. The bittersweet part for me is how e-mail has, on the one hand, made it so easy, and, on the other hand, ruined it. E-mail is an enemy we have to make peace with, but it is really the enemy, because there aren’t drafts anymore. There’s no waiting. The test that I always like to do is to think of old ’60s or ’70s soul songs. Often there are scenes where a guy has sent a letter or is waiting for a letter. And I like to imagine how much time actually passed. Let’s say you’re in a Sam Cooke song, and somebody wrote you a letter and said they’re coming back. What’s the timeframe in that song? I think it’s just nothing like what we think about now. DT: There’s definitely a speculative aspect to letter-writing. BG: That’s why they really were literary works. Because the best you can hope for is to get lucky with the person you’re writing to. You can either get lucky and catch the woman in the right mood—let’s say, when you’re writing a love letter—or you can be skillful enough to create...
Am I the only person?
Am I the only person who is so damn tired of hearing about Michael Jackson? OMG after the second day I was like who the hell cares so what he died big freaking whoop. I'm sorry but he's not that great, and never really was to me. So he made some good music, but to be honest after the early 90's he didn't do jack shyt except for molest children, fake getting married a few times, steal someone's kids and act like an utter jack@ss. Why are folks acting a fool over him. He wasn't anyone of great importance, he wasn't even the greatest musical person who's died. No one made this big of a deal over Sammy Davis, or Sam Cooke, or any really GREAT musical stars. Hell 2 others people died the same day he did but no one is talking about them. I swear folks are getting on my nerves with this crap, they act like his life was so damn great when in reality it was far from it and the world is no less for it.
