| | my neighbors just dont know what to think of us lol | | i know my nieghbors are trying to figure us out. lol. we just moved and well everyone here blast music during the day which i love cause we lived in the country and i was use to being able to do that and was worried when i moved into town that i wouldnt be able to anymore. now just about everyone here listens to rap, r&b, etc. when we moved in they were trying to figure us out cause well we moved in dirt bikes, go carts, and lots of sterio equipment, drums, guitars etc. neighbor told me she figured we were rednecks and was worried about us in this neighborhood at first but she says now no one knows what to think of us. music from our house is the loudest on the block and we go from ozzy, little richard, 2 live crew, air supply, dolly parton and they are so confused. then i wear hole ridden jeans, cap, and what ever top i pull out of the closet with hiking boots. hubby wears pj pants and a t shirt that never matches. so they always just look at us like we are nuts and go on. it is really funny | |

| | In memory of the day the music died Feb long but worth the read | | One day in early February 1959, a 13-year-old in New Rochelle, New York, cut open the stack of newspapers he was about to deliver and read that three rock ’n’ roll stars, Buddy Holly, J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and Ritchie Valens, had died in a plane crash in Iowa. The boy later said he felt “like someone had punched me in the face.” It was a feeling shared by many in America and around the world. Years later, in 1971, that paperboy, Don McLean, would write the song “American Pie,” which gave an enduring name to the event: the Day the Music DiedA reference to the beloved "sock hop".(Leather-soled street shoes tear up wooden basketball floors, and rubber-soled sneakers grip too much for dance moves, so dancers had to take off their shoes.)Man, I dig those rhythm 'n' bluesSome history. Before the popularity of rock and roll, music, like much else in the U. S., was highly segregated. The popular music of black performers for largely black audiences was called, first, "race music", later softened to rhythm and blues. In the early 50s, as they were exposed to it through radio personalities such as Allan Freed, white teenagers began listening, too. Starting around... | |
| | Legends of the Fifties and Sixties | | So how many of you are Motown and Old Time Rock N Roll Lovers? Share your Memories on all the Motown Sounds you remember and all the concerts you can remember. As for me, the list is way to long to remember all of the Great Bands from then that I saw. But, I must say I was born late in the 50's so I missed a good majority of the legends of the sounds of Old Time Soul and Rock n Roll. My list starts with Little Richard, Temptations, Ojay's, Four Tops, Al Green, Turtles, Bobby Sherman, Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Neil Sadaka, Tiny Tim, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Tom Jones,,James Brown, Spinners, Paul Anka, Bobby Daren and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and last but not least The Beach Boys. From the time I was 14, I knew this was the Era I should have been born. Attending The Ohio State Fair and seeing all these wonderful bands in concert every summer for free. It was the greatest most fond memories I can remember. I have this Great Love for music, and cherish every bit of it. This is what makes me happy the most. Good Music to dance to, sing too, and keep me smiling. | |
