| | Al Green Is Brilliant | | I saw Al Green singing on Soul Train recently and was so impressed with his work. He has to be one of the best soul singers ever. The man has a style that's all his own and nobody can be compared to him. I know that he changed his style in the late 70's and that kind of hurt his career. But no matter what, his music is timeless and I really look forward to collecting more of his CD's. My mom had an 8 track tape of his that I would put on and listen to as a kid. I remember that was the only album of hers that I liked to really listen to. Well maybe some Fleetwood Mac as well. But I remember thinking I was so "Grown Up" becuase I was this kid who loved listening to someone as classy as Al Green.The man is Genius! | |

| | Are a huge MOTOWN fan? | | I love Motown oldies. I especially liked the old Jackson 5 songs, the Temptations, the Ol' Jays, Marvin Gaye and Al Green. Songs that were sung in that day in time were so real and full of realities of the life that was taking place at that time.Now I think music simply tries to hard to go back to that era of time. There are few musical hits out today with real messages outside of gospel. Something that is simple, has a good message and a nice rhythm to it. Am I asking for too much?Although I used to like the oldies in Motown music, I rarely listen to it nowadays, except when I hear it in the grocery store or supermarket intercom system. I practically know ever lyric even though I do listen to it on a regular basis.What about you, are there any MOTOWN fans out there on mylot? | | | Music: Then and Now... | | What is the biggest difference in music now and music from back in the day? In my opinion, I think those songs from back in the day had actual meaning. The artists wrote from their hearts when they were going through something. Most older people say that the music now-a-days doesn't have meaning, because most of it is about sex, money, the "hustle", and relationships. Music from back in the day (like from Earth, Wind, and Fire, Lenny Williams, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Al Green, just to name a few) had meaning. Those songs made you FEEL what the artist was saying. | | Legends of the Fifties and Sixties | | So how many of you are Motown and Old Time Rock N Roll Lovers? Share your Memories on all the Motown Sounds you remember and all the concerts you can remember. As for me, the list is way to long to remember all of the Great Bands from then that I saw. But, I must say I was born late in the 50's so I missed a good majority of the legends of the sounds of Old Time Soul and Rock n Roll. My list starts with Little Richard, Temptations, Ojay's, Four Tops, Al Green, Turtles, Bobby Sherman, Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Neil Sadaka, Tiny Tim, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Tom Jones,,James Brown, Spinners, Paul Anka, Bobby Daren and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and last but not least The Beach Boys. From the time I was 14, I knew this was the Era I should have been born. Attending The Ohio State Fair and seeing all these wonderful bands in concert every summer for free. It was the greatest most fond memories I can remember. I have this Great Love for music, and cherish every bit of it. This is what makes me happy the most. Good Music to dance to, sing too, and keep me smiling. | |
