What You Need to Know about James Meredith

Heroes are people that have been able to contribute in a big way to the society in one way or the other and they have been quite a number of such people throughout history. Some of these people have been able to influence through business while others have been human right activists. An African-American by the name James Meredith is one of these people that is able to transform a lot and he was a civil rights activist. In 1962, James Meredith was able to join the University of Mississippi being the first African-American to be able to achieve this feat. Born in 1933, James Meredith was brought up together with other siblings on a farm and that was the childhood. James Meredith was able to attend a military high school after he was able to grow up. After high school, James Meredith was able to attend an all black college and it is after this that he was able to become the first student in the University of Mississippi. James Meredith became heavily involved in politics after being able to achieve his law degree from the University.

James Meredith stays in the Jackson Mississippi region and he continues with civil rights activists. By living on a farm land together with your family, James Meredith had the chance to be insulated from racism which is a major problem this time. The first encounter of racism that James Meredith got was when he was riding on a train that was coming from Chicago. They were forced to give up their seats to other people and were told to move to the back of the train in Memphis Tennessee. There were many other black people that were at the back of the train and because of that, they had to stand all through up to the destination. The life changing experience for James Meredith was this moment in the train and that’s why, he dedicated his life to civil rights activities especially because of the black people to ensure that they are treated fairly, learn more now.

When the registrar realized that James Meredith was an African-American, his admission into the University of Mississippi was revoked and this is one of the biggest challenges. The Supreme Court at that time ruled in favor of James Meredith when he states proceeded to the highest court although, the state courts had ruled against them. Apart from that, James Meredith has a personal life and he is political activity have been very consistent all throughout the years.
